After the thrill is gone: Work

Infinite cycles
2023-ongoing

“Infinite cycles” is an exploration of migration through photography and collage. This project unfolds as a contemplation of my experience growing up between Mexico and the United States and the constant movement of a life traversing borders.

The images, tinted with nostalgia and hopefulness, encapsulate the pain and beauty of the journey, where every step is a balance of ends and new beginnings, the familiarity of the past and the uncertainty of the future.

The works vary in medium and form, mimicking fragmented memory, where the mind fills in disruptions and irregularities created by traumatic experiences with jumbled, confused, or repeated memories.

Mountains and clouds are constant elements in these works, both symbols of time, stillness, and movement that coexist and contradict each other.

This project expresses how one’s lived experiences form one’s character and bring growth to our lives. The works create rich metaphors to depict the process of self-realization, the strength and resilience found in embracing transformation, and the inherent power within us to grow and evolve, unfolding the ordinary into something majestic.
