DTLA2010: Work

DTLA2010
2020

Yearning for something that will never be mine again, grasping for something that no longer exists. Like the word saudade, in DTLA2010 I invoke that bittersweet feeling in memory. Taking a series of photos I took of Downtown LA in 2010 as a starting point, I revisit those places and rephotograph them through google maps ten years later, placing them side by side. Giving a new intention to those images, reappropriating the photos as well as the experiences connected to them, and shifting my relation to that place and time. Muddling the distinction between past and present, the book allows me to reclaim the few years I lived in LA, and the moment when it resembled some kind of a home before being taken away.
