After the thrill is gone: Work

eyes that don't see

work in progress (2019-ongoing)

Working with a mix of self portraits, found images,  personal and family archives, this project explores the themes of sex, violence, and gender through the obscene (referencing the origin of this word: what happens off scene, what we don’t see, the intimate and the private). Equating private life to femininity, the home, and everything that revolves around it.

I contrast scientific imagery, apparently cold and from assumed masculine manufacturing, to personal images that evoke my feelings and longings, my past experiences in abusive relationships, my desire to mother, the violence in domestication, and how these relate to one another, creating a suggested narrative.  I invoke the past to question the present and imagine a future of new possibilities, embracing radical softness to assume my gender as non-binary.
